Michelle M. Guthrie
Counsellor/Health & Wellbeing Leader
Over the last four decades, I have accumulated a wealth of experience working in diverse settings, including various educational establishments, the Royal Trinity Hospice and the NHS as part of the Talk Wandsworth’s Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) Service. The experiences I have gained have equipped me with a real understanding of some of the complexities individuals face in the pursuit of a balanced life as well as some of the health challenges they have undergone. Based on my personal journey, I am passionate about supporting and motivating individuals to thrive personally and professionally.
In 2024, I will be leading a monthly support group where carers of African Caribbean descent can meet online to give each other support, advice and guidance with any aspect of Dementia. I am also involved in a group that supports people who have cancer-related hair loss. Additionally, I write articles based on health and wellbeing for a registered charity called the Sutton African and Caribbean Cultural Organisation (SACCO).
In my spare time I enjoy travelling, walking in nature and playing the saxophone.
I qualified with the Diploma in Integrative Counselling in 2022. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and always work in accordance with the Ethical Framework. This framework is designed to help me provide my clients with a secure base for our work together. I hold degrees in Social Psychology and Organisational Psychology where my passion for counselling, mental health and wellness first took root. I have a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) which has equipped me to teach in various Further Education colleges. I have worked in East Africa and travelled extensively in South and West Africa, the Caribbean, India and South East Asia so have an understanding of the values and beliefs of different cultures.
